2 to 4 days from/to Seward – Enjoy Alaska’s spectacular seacoast combined with the comforts of private cabins and hearty meals with gourmet flair.

A remote paradise lies deep in the Alaskan Wilderness, accessible only by plane.
Immersed in nature, you will discover an outpost designed for adventure and enhanced comfort.
Experience a world, far away from the relentless push of modern culture, 100 miles away from the end of the road. The neighbors are the diverse wild animals of the Chitina River Valley. Surrounded by 13.8 million acres of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park you will find a place where you will not be disturbed by cell phone, fax or beeper; the wolves howl at night, and there is no sound of traffic to bother you. Come and enjoy the magic of this place.
Each cabin is uniquely appointed, with elegant Craftsman furniture and quintessential Alaskan devotion to primal comforts. Stained glass windows, a cherry writing desk and plush leather furniture. Although you know every touch of civilization was either hand made on site or carefully selected and flown here by the Claus family, it is hard to picture that armchair or the wrought-iron stove strapped into the back of the little plane you came in. The attention to detail and unique wilderness charm of each cabin instantly make you feel at ease and at home.
Each evening you return to the lodge and to your private cabin which is uniquely handcrafted using local timber and serves as a cozy and welcoming home in the wilderness. The cabins have two bedrooms, a full bathroom and an amply furnished sitting room with amazing views of the Chitina River and surrounding mountains.
Dining is in the main lodge building and features gourmet meals prepared with fresh Alaskan ingredients. There is a large organic garden on site for growing their own veggies. Salmon and wild game are also harvested locally. Special dietary needs can be accommodated.

At Ultima Thule there are no itineraries, no set schedules or planned tours. Simply adventures in the purest and most spontaneous form.
Each morning around the breakfast table the possibilities are discussed and it’s not until the conclusion of the day, during dinner, that they are fully realized. Air safari tours are the norm and a basic routine of going places no one has even gone before.
One day, you may fly to explore an abandoned gold mine or kayak and fish for salmon in a glacial fed river. Or hike in pursuit of Dall sheep across a mountain ridge.
The next day you will find yourself landing in the middle of the largest (non polar) glacier in the world, the Bagley Icefield, for an undisturbed view of the earth’s most massive pile of rock and ice, Mt. Logan. Activity options include animal viewing, beach combing, camping, dog mushing, exploration, fishing, flightseeing, glacier exploring, hiking and trekking, Northern Lights, rafting and a lot more. After a long day of exploring, hiking, skiing, fishing or flying, you make your way up to the wood-fired sauna to relax amid a stunning, untouched scenery.
Guests are met by airplane at the McCarthy airstrip at 4:00pm on Sunday and taken directly to Ultima Thule Lodge. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are full adventure days. On Thursday guests will depart the lodge in the morning, spend ¾ of the day on a final adventure, with lunch in the field and arrive back in McCarthy by 3:30pm.
