On the first day, you will get picked up at your Anchorage accommodation (most hotels & B&Bs) and enjoy the beautiful 320 miles drive to McCarthy. There are several stops along the way to stretch your legs, get some food and take pictures of the landscape and maybe even wildlife.
Depending on availability you will stay at Ma Johnson’s Historical Hotel or Kennicott Glacier Lodge.
Included in your package is the 2-hour Kennecott Mill Town Tour, where you learn about what it was like to live and work in this remote wilderness as you tour the town site with your knowledgeable guide. Ad the half day Root Glacier hike, which is accessible for anyone who can hike 5-6 miles and you will see amazing glacier features such as blue pools, waterfalls, canyons, crevasses and more.
On the way back enjoy once more the drive on the McCarthy Road and Glenn Highway as you make your way back to Anchorage.
You will stay either in McCarthy or in Kennicott.
Depending on dates, there are rooms with shared bath or rooms with private bath available.
From June 1 to Sept 1, 2022
Friday and Saturday stays at McCarthy will incur addl $42.50 per night.
