About this poster
The Swiss workers’ sports union (SATUS) was founded in 1874 under a different name. From 1920 the union held national workers’ sport festivals – the fourth one was carried out in Aarau in 1930, as this poster announces. The workers’ sport movement opened sports up to the wider population and was concerned with promoting gender equality within sports. This is evident in the poster, whose main figure is a young woman in unisex sport clothes with her hair cut in a practical bob, watching a large crowd of gymnasts.
