About this poster
This rare vintage poster, which urged Swiss voters in 1922 to vote No in a referendum about wealth tax, is one of the few political propaganda posters that Emil Cardinaux designed. A gigantic, threatening figure of a red-clad jester carrying a large sack on his back leans on a factory chimney. This strange image along with the gloomy colours of the factory scene below creates a feeling of tension and unease and is a striking example of political propaganda imagery.
