About this poster
The architect, designer and painter Le Corbusier is considered to be the founder of modern architecture. He was born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1887 and later adopted the pseudonym Le Corbusier, which was based on his great-grandfather’s name. After his school education, he moved to France and became a French citizen. Le Corbusier modernised architecture fundamentally: for him, it had to be functional, puristical and economical. This principle he also applied to furniture design, sculpture, painting, and graphic design. By the time he died in 1965, he was seen as one of the most important pioneers in avant-garde architecture and of the most important architects of the 20th century. His portrait graces the Swiss ten-franc bank note.
