About this poster
Otto Baumberger masterfully relayed the excitement of flying in his Art Deco poster for the 1927 international air show in Zurich. Lithographed by the artist himself, it is a beautiful masterpiece with classic typography. Speed is suggested by the near-vertical nose dive of the white, stylised aircraft in the deep-blue sky. The outline of the Alps appears frequently in the background of aviation-related posters. Such air shows were among the most important aviation events in Europe before they were discontinued for environmental reasons. Take-off took place at the military airport of Dübendorf, which was closed in 2005.
