This kind of advertisement would be unthinkable today, but during the post-war years, every sophisticated lady had to own a fur coat, which was a symbol of noblesse and wealth. This is why the fur industry invested heavily in advertising during the 1950s, as this 1952 vintage poster by Celestino Piatti shows.

Celestino Piatti was born in 1922 in Wangen, Switzerland and died in 2007. He was educated at the Kunstgewerbeschule (Art School) in Zurich and did an apprenticeship as a graphic designer. He worked for the workshop of Fritz Bühler in Basel, before opening his own studio with his wife Marianne Piatti-Stricker who was an illustrator.
