A glass, a toothbrush and a tube of Binaca toothpaste - manufactured with impressive-sounding "Sulfo-Ricinoleat" - realistically, yet artistically rendered by Stoecklin. Nothing wasted, nothing excluded. In essence, an exemplar of object vintage poster execution, the perfect reminder that one really ought to purchase some Binaca on the way home. In a word: masterful. After studies in Munich and attending Burkhard Mangold's classes back in his home town of Basel, Stoecklin embarked on a wide-ranging career: he painted, did murals, designed postage stamps and illustrated books. But his primary achievement remains a body of more than 100 posters, most of them employing a style of strong visual impact by focusing sharply on whatever the poster is about. The technique worked particularly well in product posters and was labeled "new objectivity."

Niklaus STOECKLIN was born in Basel in 1896 and died in 1982.
Stoecklin’s first teacher in Basel was Burkhard Mangold who heavily influenced his style. He studied at the Basel School of Arts and Craft and created his first ‘object poster’ in 1922.
