About this poster
This 1939 poster for Bell was one of Leupin’s first big commissions as well as his first great success as a poster artist. It shows a trompe-l’oeil wooden cutting board with the Bell logo on its handle, arranged with an assortment of appetizing cold cuts. The poster caused a sensation, and there was such a demand for the fictitious “Bell”-branded cutting board that the company was compelled to have real ones manufactured. The success of this poster marked the beginning of Leupin’s long career as a poster designer.

Herbert LEUPIN was born in Beinwil am See in 1916. He lived in Basel and later in his life he moved to the Italian part of Switzerland, where he died in 1999.
