The lovely hilly landscape of Appenzellerland presents a picture-book Switzerland: in summer the meadows and forests are lush green, and on winter evenings it becomes downright romantic when you let the white-clad landscapes between Gossau, Herisau, Appenzell and St. Gallen pass you by on the train. Wilhelm F. Burger impressively depicted this wonderful landscape with the traditional costume couple in this poster for the Appenzellerbahn from 1938.

Wilhelm Friedrich Burger was born in Zurich in 1882. He apprenticed as a lithographer and then studied at the Zurich school of arts and crafts and at the academy in Karlsruhe.
