In 1867, Rudolph Schoeller founded a worsted wool spinning mill, moving it to a new factory building on Ebnatstrasse in Schaffhausen in 1910. In 1926, the brand name “Schaffhauser Wolle” was officially introduced. After the Second World War, the company had about 600 employees. It flourished until the 1980s, exporting 60% of its products to 20 countries. In 1988, the global hand-knitting market collapsed due to changes in fashion and cheaper ready-made clothing. In 1991, the Schoeller-Albers company ceased production of “Schaffhauser Wolle”. In 2018, the „Museum zu Allerheiligen“ in Schaffhausen showed an exhibition on the history of „Schaffhauser Wolle“, including more than 100 advertising posters designed by Swiss graphic designers and artists between 1924 and 1989.
