Karl Bickel
Karl BICKEL was born in 1886 in Zurich and died in 1982.
Educated als a lithographer and advertising designer, he became technical director in a Zurich advertising atelier from 1904 to 1908. During this period, he attended the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich. From 1914 to 1918 he worked for the Graphic Institute J.E. Wolfensberger in Zurich. He was commissioned to design stamps for the Swiss Post and eventually became the most well-known stamp engraver in Switzerland. In 1924, Bickel moved to Walenstadtberg and started working on the monumental mosaic work PAX MAL in which he created the walls in his own relief-mosaic technique.
