Ruodi Barth

The graphic designer Ruodi Barth was born in Basel in 1921. After his studies at the Gewerbeschule Basel, he travelled through Europe and Morocco. In 1943 and 1944, he designed posters for cultural events and for the Basel Zoo. From the 1950s he became well-known for his work as a stage designer for theatres in Basel, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Zurich and Vienna. His designs were characterised by imaginativeness, wit, satire and colourfulness.
