About this poster

It is not easy to find better advertising than the "object posters" created in Basel in the '40s to '60s by Herbert Leupin, Niklaus Stoecklin and Peter Birkhäuser. These delightful posters make their points with simple and humorous designs. Along with Leupin, Stoecklin specialised in combining excellent craftsmanship with a strong focus on the product. One of his most awarded designs in this vintage poster for Gaba poster cough pastilles.

Niklaus STOECKLIN was born in Basel in 1896 and died in 1982.

Stoecklin’s first teacher in Basel was Burkhard Mangold who heavily influenced his style. He studied at the Basel School of Arts and Craft and created his first ‘object poster’ in 1922.
